Young children live in love, wonder and simplicity. They are accepting of everyone, and their greatest joy comes from being included, especially in play! As your kids get older, they become more keenly aware of self-acceptance and being accepted by their peers, especially as they notice one another's differences. Yet, as children of God, they must be reminded that we are each unique and have our own gifts and challenges. The story of St. Margaret of Castello reminds us that we all are made in the image of God, and that all life is sacred and holy and should be celebrated. PARENT-TO-PARENT / PEER-TO-PEER: SHARE THE SPECIAL JOURNEY

Have you experienced the struggles and joys of caring for a family member living with a disability? Have you become disabled due to an accident? Do you find comfort in accompanying others who share similar experiences? We are offering an opportunity for parents, family members, and friends of persons with special needs to provide guidance and support through the maze of emotional, health, educational and transitional times. Summertime brings special time for family and fun. For families with special needs, summertime can be filled with change and anxiety. Children and youth with special needs will find it much easier to enjoy the summer if you make them part of the planning. Creating a summer schedule with structured activities can help the whole family reduce anxiety and set expectations. Include an activity that doesn't have a set "finished time." Include quiet time and time for conversation. Plan activities that create some fun summertime memories. May this summer offer fun and relaxing moments for your family!

Save the date, and join the Disability Inclusion Ministry in the Archdiocese of Dubuque as they host this wonderful event! The gathering will be free of charge, and open to the public. The keynote speaker will be Charleen Katra, Executive Director of the National Partnership on Disability (NCPD). Charleen is the co-author of The Adaptive Teacher. Registration and additional information coming soon!
